Weinbeschreibung
100% Monastrell.
The Wine Advocate I Jan 18, 2024 I Luis Gutiérrez
The 2020 Juan Gil (silver label) feels young and primary, ripe and with notes of young wine, berries, herbs and a touch of beeswax and honey. It has 15% alcohol and is juicy and full-bodied, with integrated oak and with grape flavors in the finish.
Juan Gil from Jumilla keeps working with their sustainability approach and are one of three IWCA certified wineries in Spain working toward zero emissions in 2050. The wines from their own vineyards have been certified organic since 2022. They have 870 hectares certified organic and still buy a small percentage of grapes—all from organic growers—for the young wines. All the Monastrell is dry farmed, and they are worried by the lack of rain in the last few years. Not a small thing... They produce three million bottles and have no intention to grow; they've been stable for the last three years, and the focus is on improvement. They have introduced optical sorting for the young wines.
